Aamir Adds New Colour To Indian Cinema, Again
~ Reetu Bajaj ‘12
Ghajini, starring Aamir Khan, Asin, Jiah Khan, Pradeep Rawat, and directed by A.R. Murugadoss swept box offices over the winter break. The star of the show, Aamir Khan, shocked audiences through his versatile role playing as Sanjay Singhania, a shy, reserved tycoon who finds love in the alley, to a vulnerable killing machine who attacks his prey like an injured tiger. As a man who suffers from short term memory loss, Sanjay must deal with his haunted past and also find out his love’s (Asin) murderers and kill them. Through unfinished diaries, tattoos, Polaroid snapshots, and a pleasant medical student (Jiah Khan), Sanjay does not have much to follow up on. Does Sanjay fulfill his vengeance or do the bad guys (Pradeep Rawat and co.) prevail? Being a Bollywood movie, one can expect a typical ending. But the process to get there involves many twists and turns, filled with romance and very intense fighting sequences. Through A.R. Rahman’s music and Aamir’s convincing acting as a wounded, bicep-laden, revenge thirsty action hero, Ghajini is less of a psychological thriller (like Memento) and more of an action thriller, which has attracted crowds from all over.
